Welcome Bonuses in Canada

Many welcome bonuses look stronger in the headline than in the terms behind it. The toplist below compares welcome bonuses available to Canadian players, ranked by the Casino Atlas Rating. Each offer is checked for wagering, excluded payment methods, expiry, and real value in CAD.

How We Selected Welcome Bonuses for Canadian Players

Every offer on this page is a welcome bonus available to new players in Canada. Bonus quality is scored under Bonuses, which makes up 15% of the Casino Atlas Rating.

A large headline figure does not earn a high position by itself. We weigh the wagering and what it applies to, the expiry period, maximum cashout and maximum bet, and excluded games or payment methods. We also check whether the offer is set in CAD and whether Interac deposits qualify.

The full Canadian methodology is on our How We Rate page.

What Welcome Bonuses Look Like for Canadian Players

A welcome bonus is an offer for new players, usually tied to your first deposit. The most common form is a deposit match, where the casino adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your deposit, up to a cap.

Welcome bonuses at casinos available in Canada are often modest rather than extravagant. That is not a weakness on its own, because the terms decide what an offer is actually worth.

Welcome Bonus vs. Welcome Package

A single welcome bonus applies to your first deposit only. A welcome package spreads the bonus across several deposits, often with a lower match rate at each step.

The headline figure of a package adds every step together. Reaching it means making every qualifying deposit, usually within a set period, and often at amounts far above what most players deposit.

Packages often include free spins, which usually carry their own wagering and a cap on what their winnings can pay out. The later package steps also tend to have a claiming deadline, so a step you miss may not be available afterwards.

The two offers below are illustrative, not real offers. They show how far the headline figure can sit from what a typical deposit actually unlocks.

OfferStructureDeposits MadeBonus ReceivedHeadline Figure
Welcome Bonus100% match up to C$200C$100C$100Up to C$200
Welcome Package100%, then 50%, then 25%, each step capped at C$5003 x C$200C$200 + C$100 + C$50 = C$350Up to C$1,500

Three C$200 deposits into the package unlock C$350, less than a quarter of its headline. Reaching the full C$1,500 would take C$3,500 in deposits across the three steps.

How Wagering Works on Canadian Welcome Offers

Wagering is the total amount you must bet before bonus funds, and any winnings from them, can be withdrawn. It is written as a multiplier, such as 35x. What that multiplier applies to matters more than the number itself.

Bonus Only vs. Deposit Plus Bonus

The table uses a C$100 deposit with a 100% match, so C$100 in bonus funds. The figures are illustrative, not a real offer.

Wagering TermCalculated OnTotal to Bet Before Withdrawal
35x on bonus onlyC$100C$3,500
35x on deposit + bonusC$200C$7,000
40x on bonus onlyC$100C$4,000

A high 40x requirement on the bonus only costs less to clear than a typical 35x on deposit plus bonus. That is why we rank offers on what the wagering applies to, not on the lowest multiplier.

We describe wagering multipliers with the same fixed bands on every Casino Atlas page.

MultiplierHow We Describe It
0xNo wagering
Up to 25xLow wagering
26x–35xTypical wagering
36x–49xHigh wagering
50x and aboveVery high wagering

The basis still comes first. At any band, wagering on deposit plus bonus roughly doubles the real cost compared with wagering on the bonus only.

Game Contribution

Not every game counts fully toward wagering. Slots often count at 100%, while table games and live casino may count at a lower rate or not at all.

The effect can be large. If blackjack counts at 10%, clearing C$3,500 of wagering through blackjack alone would take C$35,000 in bets (illustrative figures).

Expiry and Maximum Bet

The expiry period sets how fast you must wager. C$3,500 over 30 days works out to about C$117 in bets per day, but over 7 days it is C$500 per day.

Most welcome bonuses also cap your stake per spin or hand until wagering is complete. Going over that cap can void the bonus and any winnings from it.

Sticky vs. Non-Sticky Welcome Bonuses

A non-sticky bonus, also called cashable, keeps your deposit and the bonus separate. You usually play with your own money first, and withdrawing before you touch the bonus forfeits only the bonus.

A sticky bonus, also called non-cashable, can never be withdrawn itself. When you cash out after meeting the wagering, the bonus amount is removed and only the balance above it is paid.

Withdrawing Before Wagering Is Complete

Requesting a withdrawal before the wagering is met usually cancels the bonus. Any winnings made with the bonus funds are removed along with it.

Types of Welcome Offers for Canadian Players

Welcome bonuses come in several forms, and many offers combine more than one. Each type below has its own comparison page.

Deposit Match

The casino adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your first deposit, up to a cap.

Free Spins

Free spins are often bundled into a welcome offer rather than given on their own. Winnings from them usually carry their own wagering.

No Deposit

A bonus you can claim before making any deposit, useful for trying a casino first. The best ones carry low or no wagering.

No Wagering

A welcome offer whose winnings can be withdrawn without meeting a playthrough. It is a feature some offers carry, not a separate bonus type.

The Casino Atlas Welcome Bonus Checklist for Canada

Run these six checks on any welcome offer before you claim it. They follow the same criteria we use to score bonuses in the Casino Atlas Rating.

  • What does the wagering apply to, and how high is it?
Bonus-only wagering beats deposit-plus-bonus wagering at the same multiplier. Treat 50x or more as a heavy requirement.
  • Is it a single bonus or a package?
For a package, work out what your own planned deposits unlock, not the headline total.
  • Do Interac deposits qualify?
Check the excluded payment methods before your first deposit. If your method is excluded, the deposit may not trigger the bonus.
  • Is the offer set in CAD?
A bonus set in CAD is preferable to a larger one converted from USD or EUR.
  • Can you clear it before it expires?
Divide the total wagering by the days allowed. If the daily amount is more than you would normally bet, the bonus is unlikely to pay out.
  • What caps apply?
Check the maximum cashout and the maximum bet while wagering. A low cashout cap limits what a large bonus can pay out.

How to Claim a Welcome Bonus in Canada

  1. Set a deposit limit first
Decide your budget and set a deposit limit in your account before your first deposit. See our Responsible Gambling page for how these tools work.
  2. Run the checklist
Check the offer against the six points above, especially wagering and expiry.
  3. Check how the offer is activated
Some offers apply automatically, while others need an opt-in or a bonus code, often before your first deposit or first bet.
  4. Deposit in CAD with a qualifying method
Use Interac or another method the terms allow, and meet the minimum deposit.
  5. Track wagering, expiry, and the maximum bet
Keep your stakes within the bet cap, and avoid requesting a withdrawal before the wagering is complete.
  6. Claim later package steps on time
If the offer is a package, note the deadline for each later deposit step.
  7. Verify your account before withdrawing
Withdrawals are processed after identity verification, so uploading your documents early avoids a delay.

Key Takeaways

  • Canadian welcome bonuses tend to be modest, and a modest offer with bonus-only wagering often beats a larger package with deposit-plus-bonus wagering.

  • On a C$100 bonus, the same 35x multiplier can mean C$3,500 or C$7,000 in bets, so check what it applies to before looking at the headline figure.

  • A welcome package’s headline adds every deposit step together, so work out what your own planned deposits in CAD would actually unlock.

  • Confirm that Interac deposits qualify and that the offer is set in CAD before your first deposit.

  • Once the welcome offer is used, reload and cashback offers carry most of the longer-term value for Canadian players.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a welcome bonus?

An offer for new players, usually a deposit match on the first deposit, sometimes with free spins added.
  • What is the difference between a welcome bonus and a welcome package?

A welcome bonus applies to one deposit. A package spreads the bonus across several deposits, and its headline adds all the steps together.
  • What wagering requirement is reasonable in Canada?

We describe 26x–35x as typical wagering and 50x or more as very high. Check first whether it applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus.
  • Can I use Interac to claim a welcome bonus?

Check the bonus terms for excluded payment methods before your first deposit. Some offers exclude certain methods from qualifying.
  • Can I claim more than one welcome bonus at the same casino?

Usually not. Welcome bonuses are typically limited to one per player, and some casinos also limit them per household or device.
  • Are the casinos on this page part of Ontario's regulated market?

No. The casinos on this page are licensed offshore and are not part of Ontario's regulated market, which iGaming Ontario operates and the AGCO regulates.
